Barbra Zakarian started Blackbottoms Cyclewear in 1974, sewing cycling shorts in her home for friends and acquaintances. Blackbottoms cycling shorts soon became well known for their quality, durability and fit. She was first to introduce “flatlocked” seams to the industry, and successfully expanded the product line to include tights, jerseys and jackets.
Blackbottoms’ continues to be a family run business under the ownership of Jay Elggren and his wife, Tara, with the goal of providing modern cyclists shorts, tights, jerseys and jackets – incorporating high performance fabrics, anatomically correct fit and “casual” fashion without hype or high prices.
Blackbottoms Cyclewear designs, manufactures, and distributes sensibly priced, high-quality cycling apparel for road, mountain and fitness cyclists. With these beginnings driving the company forward, Blackbottoms’ goal is to provide modern cyclists with shorts, tights, jerseys and jackets which incorporate high performance fabrics, anatomically correct fit and “casual” fashion without hype or high prices.
